Happy New Year!
One of my favorite phone apps (thank you Jesus for technology) is the YouVersion Bible. It makes it easy to toggle between different bible translations and offers tons of great devotionals and reading plans. In fact, the other day I started a pretty cool devotional called One Word That Will Change Your Life. Not only is it simple, it’s also only 4 days.
It was the perfect New Year’s resolution alternate for me. You see, I don’t like New Year’s resolutions because I find them to be personally silly. Whenever I know something needs to be implemented or put into action—I know it, I go for it, and I don’t need Jan 1st to define that. I rather keep a consistent and continuous mentality of growth, evolution, and progress than one day out of the year when I take the time out to reflect and think about it.
Maybe it’s the way my mind is set up but I make resolutions every single day. It can cause a lot of chaos inside my brain at times and can be confusing, yet I appreciate it because after one thing is tackled, on to the next!
This devotional, One Word That Will Change Your Life, was created by Jon Gordon, Dan Britton, and Jimmy Page, a super mini version of their book with the same title. They describe the devotional as…”ONE WORD helps you simplify your life by focusing on just ONE WORD for the entire year. The simplicity of discovering a word that God has for you makes it a catalyst for life-change. Clutter and complexity lead to procrastination and paralysis, while simplicity and focus lead to success and clarity. This 4-day devotional shows you how to cut through to the core of your intention for a one word vision for the year.”
It’s awesome!
God often speaks to me with one word for different seasons (like Garrison, Serve, Prayer, Guilt, and Character) but it didn’t cross my mind that He would give me one to carry me through 2015. Along with how God has been leading me into the new year, taking the time out to discover my God inspired one word theme has been amazing. The last few days of the year have been far greater than any in 2014. Dealing with the ups and downs of a 1 year marriage, being away from family for the longest period ever, and then having to deal with health issues, it has been very uplifting, reassuring, and comforting to know that God is using it ALL for a greater purpose and His glory. Never ever have I had so much expectation for the new year like I do now. This is the first time that another year isn’t just business as usual. Having one word to focus on and meditate on in 2015, with whatever it will bring, is exciting!
I encourage you to prayerfully seek the Lord for your one word theme this year and to check out the One Word That Will Change Your Life devotional as a great tool. God can use that one word mightily in your life, if you only seek Him.
